The set decoration was absolutely mesmerizing. Gazzo, Lee Strasberg, Diane Keaton, and Talia Shire were excellent as well. John Cazale gave a great performance and made us feel for his character. Robert Duvall was also good in this movie. He only spoke 5 sentences of English and spoke Italian for the rest of the movie. Robert De Niro was also very good in this film.
He gave one of the five best performances of all time. I have absolutely no idea how he did not win the Oscar(R) for "Best Actor". Pacino really steps it up from the previous film in the trilogy showing more anger and hatred. Throughout the film, I saw this anger and desire for vengeance eating away at him. Al Pacino gives one of the best performances of all time as Michael Corleone. These two stories parallel each other perfectly. The movie also goes back in time to show a young Vito Corleone and shows his rise to power. "The Godfather Part II" continues the story of Michael Corleone and shows his downfall. It does what any sequel should do: complement the predecessor. "The Godfather Part II" is easily my favorite movie sequel ever. It really is one movie it tells one story. I consider "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II" my favorite movie of all time. Which Side of History? But also, the fact that Coppola’s film did so well in the Time Out poll may be attributed in part to our having decided not to distinguish between the various parts of the trilogy (some people had voted for the whole thing, some for the first two parts, others for either the first or the second part), whereas Sight & Sound treated the constituent parts of the trilogy as entirely separate films. The discrepancies can obviously be put down partly to changes in taste and perspective over the years, partly to the different people polled.
